The light and medium range

The light to medium range of Socomec Rockbreakers is an ideal attachment for a wide range of stand/ride-on machines. The versatility of the range makes them highly useful in areas where access of larger machines may be restricted, or where operating space is at a premium.

Technical features

The new DMS breakers are built in a mono-block structure, eliminating the traditional tie-rod bolts. The only part that has to be assembled to the body of the breaker by using screws is the accumulator. The accumulator has a secondary function as a cap, sealing the top of the breaker. The elimination of tie-rod bolts from the breaker also eliminates the most common cause of downtime, broken bolts. Moreover, the serious consequences of using a breaker with an undetected broken bolt are eliminated. Service operations are very easy and economical. By simply removing the accumulator, all bushings and the piston are immediately accessible.

Silenced version

The mono-block structure is vulcanized in a unique body with the external case by means of a patented polyurethane solution. Noise is reduced to a minimum. The excavator arm is protected from harmful micro vibrations. The unique stepped piston design delivers maximum energy to the chisel and minimum recoil to the breaker body.

The DMS breakers have an advanced modular hydraulic brake. When the tool is not in contact with the rock, the oil supply is automatically recycled, and pressure strokes are avoided.

A special valve stabilises the working pressure no matter what the oil flow is. In that way, it keeps the energy stroke constant.

The medium to heavy range

Heavy-duty breakers with energy recovery valve

The Socomec medium-heavy range is represented by the MDO series with energy recovery system, a range from 1250 to 4200kg able to supply energy for stroke from 2500 to 10000J and to be fitted on excavators 15 to 65t.

Launched in 1975, the MDO medium-heavy range has been constantly updated by applying new patented technical solutions and new models. This range of super-breakers is ideal for Socomec, a well-established reality, appreciated for its reliability, productivity and performances.

All Socomec breakers have a hydraulic braking system, which helps to eliminate blank strokes.


MDO series has an automatic greasing unit fitted to rock breakers with no other connections required.


The innovative soundproofing system reduces noise by approximately 50%. This is achieved by using special guide and coating plates that completely isolate the breaker from its frame.


It is possible to use the breaker underwater and for underground mining.


In the Socomec construction, the piston is not directly in contact with the cylinder but it slides in a series of guide bushings. When resealing is necessary, it is possible to remove the piston and bushings without loosening the breaker tie-rods. This cost-saving design is exclusive to Socomec.


Three seal rings between the cylinder lining bushes and the piston and further seals between the lining bushes and the cylinder offer excellent protection from oil leaks. Low friction type seals are used which do not overheat and have a long service life. A large wiper seal on the tool keeps dust out of the lower chamber and helps to keep grease inside the breaker. It also helps to reduce noise levels.


Socomec breakers deliver the highest productivity in any material. This is achieved by variation of the blow frequency and impact energy. The breaker reacts to the resistance of the material to be broken and is designed to work always at maximum efficiency.


Thanks to the piston recoil energy, some of the oil already used is directed back to the pressure chamber and is spent on the next stroke. This system increases the breaker power and productivity without drawing further energy from the excavator.


The perfect hydraulic balance of the moving parts avoids all possible breaker recoils. Shock absorbers are built into the breaker frame above and below the breaker to avoid transmitting micro vibrations to the excavator arm.


Socomec has designed a long stepped section piston that delivers a very powerful impact to the tool and assures the owner of the highest productivity.
